| The 20th edition of the Control of Communicable Diseases Manual (CCDM) updates the 2008 edition with plenty of new content. A web-based, interactive, and searchable version is under development and is slated to be ready in mid to late 2015. |

Purpose
|
| This is meant to be a quick, convenient pocket reference with key information needed for the prevention and control of communicable diseases. It is not meant to be a comprehensive clinical manual on each disease. The website, when completed, will provide an easy mechanism for more timely updates in this rapidly evolving field. |

Audience
|
| The targeted audience includes anyone whose concern is the control of communicable diseases. Its size and the breadth of content make it ideal to literally take into the field, but it is also intended for use by front line communicable disease control staff in any public health authority's office. It is written by a large panel of highly respected authors, reviewers, and editors. |

Features
|
| The book covers a comprehensive list of infectious diseases of international importance, with well over 100 chapters on individual diseases or groups of diseases. Much more than just updated details and new conditions have been added in this edition. Some topics have become their own chapters and other chapters have been merged, reorganized, or retitled making them easier to find. A new introductory chapter on communicable diseases at the human-animal interface, aka "One Health," has been added. The concept of One Health is an integrated and holistic approach to address human health, emphasizing the prevention of emerging and reemerging infectious diseases at their origin. One Health also considers social, economic, and environmental factors. There have been some slight changes to the standard format of each chapter that improve the book's usability in practice. Notably, the methods of control section has been broken into two sections, one on management of the patient and one on management of the contacts and control of spread. Each disease is also identified by the WHO's International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision (ICD-10) numeric code. ICD-9 codes are not included, as they were in the previous edition. |
