Features
|
The book begins with an introduction to EMDR therapy. EMDR is an interactive therapy to help clients overcome traumatic memories. Therapists must have extensive training in order to be effective. There are eight phases and three stages of EMDR therapy. The target assessment phase begins after a comprehensive psychosocial history is obtained. The building blocks of EMDR therapy focus on the past, present, and future. The book provides strategies when therapy is not proceeding as expected. It is important to discuss the case conceptualization and treatment plan with the client. There are recommendations on how to work with active military and veteran populations. EMDR can be utilized via teletherapy though there are some disadvantages. Clinicians who are new to EMDR are encouraged to practice the techniques in practice as often as they can. The book ends with different resources, including scripts and exercises. It is very readable and contains numerous figures, tables, and exhibits, which help clarify the text. The chapters are organized in a uniform manner, with the following sections: introduction, text, summary statements, and questions and answers. |
