It discusses topics such as evidence-based practice, health, illness, and holism, as well as issues germane to establishing and maintaining a professional identify. The chapter on the evolution of formal knowledge of nursology provides an overview of many nursing and other theoretical frameworks in a user-friendly manner and is an excellent refresher for those not currently in nursing school. Section II, "Critical Abilities in Professional Nursing Practice," discusses the skills needed for professional nursing practice. Topics such as communication, critical thinking, and nursing leadership are among the issues covered in a practical, useful manner. Section III, "Quality Care for Individuals, Families, and Groups," includes a discussion on ensuring quality and safety and the economics of healthcare, along with up-to-date implications for today's nurses. The discussion on policy engagement is a nice addition as this chapter underscores the importance of policy engagement to advance health and professional nursing practice.
