Effectively diagnose the complete range of pediatric pathologies, from neonatal disorders through adolescence. Intended for a broad audience including general and pediatric pathologists, pediatricians, surgeons, oncologists, and other pediatric subspecialties, Stocker and Dehner?s Pediatric Pathology is widely recognized as the definitive go-to comprehensive clinical reference in the unique subspecialty of pediatric pathology ? which, unlike other subspecialties, is defined by an age group rather than an organ system or process. The tumors that occur in infants and children are distinct from those that develop in adults, and they often exhibit exceptional clinical behavior, thus requiring different diagnostic and therapeutic protocols. Authored by a host of prominent authorities on this challenging area, the fourth edition of Stocker and Dehner?s Pediatric Pathology was designed to be a comprehensive volume on all major aspects of the pathologic anatomy of childhood disorders, providing the in-depth, richly illustrated guidance you need to confidently evaluate and dependably report your findings. Sweeping updates in this edition put all of the very latest knowledge and techniques at your fingertips. Key Features: - Find authoritative answers on everything from how to perform a pediatric autopsy or apply the latest molecular techniques, to diagnosing chromosomal abnormalities, congenital anomalies and malformation syndromes, inborn errors of metabolism, and congenital and acquired systemic infectious diseases; from how to approach forensic pathology and transplant pathology, to evaluating the pathologies of each organ system and pediatric tumors. Content and observations are integrated from other chapters to convey a sense of unity in the study of the child as a whole.
- Appendices featuring over 50 seminal charts and tables on fetal, infant, and child development.
- A focus on key pathologic findings as well as the latest molecular genetic tools and the role that these findings play in pathologic diagnosis.
- Locate the information you need quickly thanks to an intuitive organization by disease classification and organ system.
- Identify pathologic features successfully with the aid of more than 1,300 gross and microscopic images, including 1,200 in full color.
- Exclusive online content with over 300 additional images.

Description
This is the fourth edition of the most comprehensive textbook of pediatric pathology. The previous edition was published in 2011. |
Purpose
In keeping with the original objectives of the authors -- writing a comprehensive book on the major aspects of the pathological anatomy of childhood disorders -- this book covers most of the common as well as the rare diseases seen in children, from in utero to adolescence. |
Audience
This edition is a collaborative effort of many pathologists and the audience includes not only pediatric pathologists, but also medical students, residents, fellows, and the rest of the practicing general pathologists. Furthermore, pediatricians, perinatologists, forensic scientists, dermatologists, surgeons, oncologists, and radiologists also will find it useful. This edition has 54 contributors (versus 45 in the previous edition), of which 26 are new. |
Features
The increase to 1,470 pages in this edition, compared to the 1,290 in the previous edition, can be attributed not only to the necessary larger fonts used in the tables, but also to new material. The book is divided into two sections, general and organ system pathology. The general pathology section covers techniques in pediatric pathology, first and second trimester pregnancy loss, chromosomal abnormalities and congenital malformations, inborn errors of metabolism, congenital and acquired systemic infectious diseases, pediatric forensic pathology, and transplant pathology. The section on organ system pathology covers placental pathology as well as pediatric pathology of all organ systems. There is only one new chapter (on oral, maxillofacial, head and neck pathology), but in all chapters the pediatric entities have been carefully screened, defined, described, and classified anew based on the ever-changing reality of molecular, proteomics, and metabolomics information. The book is well illustrated with numerous gross and microscopic images of generally very good quality. A number of useful tables nicely complement the text. An extensive list of references is provided at the end of each chapter. In addition, 52 appendixes cover fetal growth and development, organ weights and body measurements, and placental characteristics and measurements. The book also has a comprehensive index. |
Assessment
This book provides practical guidance on an inclusive range of pediatric pathology and clinical topics. With quality charts, tables, and illustrative photographs, the book outlines essential features and characteristics in the diagnosis of common conditions that are encountered by those practicing pediatric and adolescent pathology. Illustrations are important in any pathology book and, while many were used in the previous edition, the high-quality photographs of both gross and microscopic pathology are classic and relevant. This is a must have for anybody who signs out pediatric pathology specimens and performs perinatal and pediatric autopsies. |
